 Living with dementia can be confusing, overwhelming, and upsetting. It's often dangerous for a confused person to live alone, at home, but it's also a hard decision to move your loved one into a nursing home setting. To help ease this transition, MediLodge of St. Clair provides Faith Haven, a specialized dementia care unit designed to meet the unique needs of residents with dementia. This closed-door unit provides a small, intimate living area where these special residents feel safer and more at home. Because the unit has its own dedicated area, this space feels more manageable, less confusing, and more familiar.  A "structured day program" provides residents with consistent daily routines. Often this type of program helps residents maintain functioning, continence, and body weight longer than they might without such interventions. Predictability and a consistent structure helps residents know how their day will unfold. This helps them feel more in control and less confused.  For residents with dementia, helping around the house often means caring for young children. Many have "babies" (baby dolls) that keep them company all day long, then sleep in small doll beds in residents' rooms during the night. This companionship helps residents recollect the love and connection between a young mother and her child that once defined their day-to-day life.  When a resident is having a difficult day, one of our specially-trained staff members can help them relax with our Snoozellen cart. Using a collection of soothing music, calming tactile objects, and aromatherapy, we can bring some peace and quiet right where it's needed. | |
Ruth has been in this new unit since it opened up…It is like a big home and family. The attention they receive is remarkable. They are treated like human beings and all of the help are very warm and loving to each and every one. Being Ruth can’t be on her own anymore, I think MediLodge of St. Clair is a great to place to have as a home for her. God bless all! |
